Remarks from Staff Council at UNOG memorial ceremony for staff killed in Kabul, Geneva, 20 January, 11 a.m.

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for coming.

Today we come together to mourn UN staff and all victims of the terrible and horrific attack that took place in Kabul on Friday.

Just like us, our colleagues Basra, Nasrin, Khanjar and Vadim were members of the UN family.

Human Rights Day and wage cuts

Dear Colleagues,

Last month we informed you about the difficult negotiations currently taking place at the General Assembly on our terms and conditions. The latest news is even more worrying:

2012-2013 Audit Report and actions taken

Update on mobility

We would like to update you on the progress of the Secretary-General's mobility proposals (on which we were not consulted).

Please find here an advanced copy of a report prepared by advisory body to the General Assembly called the ACABQ. While the General Assembly makes the final decision, it tends to endorse ACABQ's recommendations to a significant extent. Please note that we provided a number of inputs to ACABQ's deliberations.

Don't fill in compensation review survey

As you may know, the International Civil Service Commission, at the request of certain member states and organizations, is reviewing our salaries, allowances and benefits. Called the compensation review, it is supposed to ensure that our pay remains competitive. In the current political and economic climate, this may increase our pay, but it may also reduce it. This is why we are paying careful attention to every stage of this review.
