General Assembly does not agree changes to travel policy, defers GSDM | L'Assemblée générale n'approuve pas les modifications de la politique relative aux voyages, et reporte la décision sur le GSDM

Over the last two weeks we have informed you of our positions and representations to Member States against negative changes to the travel policy and the proposal (the third to be presented) to offshore administrative jobs, called the global service delivery model (GSDM).

We are pleased to inform you that the General Assembly’s Fifth Committee concluded its Spring session and decided not to change the travel policy. It also deferred consideration of GSDM until autumn, with the cost of GSDM and location of the service centres remaining a serious concern for Member States. This allows more time to find options for affected colleagues in Geneva and other locations.

Thank you for all the feedback and support we have received on these issues.

Potentially negative changes to the travel policy | Des changements négatifs à la politique en matière de voyages

In February we shared with you the proposal by the Secretary-General to the General Assembly to revise the rules on travel. This involved replacing the business class threshold of 9 hours for direct journeys and 11 hours for indirect journeys with a single threshold of 10 hours for all journeys.

That proposal is now being negotiated by Member States at the General Assembly. Among the ideas that have been raised within the General Assembly are raising the threshold to 12 or 14 hours and restricting business class travel only to staff at D-1 and above.

In light of this the staff unions have prepared the following communication that was sent to member states this week, outlining our concerns with the latest developments.

We will keep you updated on this matter and welcome your comments.
