UN Beach opens on 6 April - buy your subscription online now | La plage de l'ONU ouvre ses portes le 6 avril : achetez votre abonnement en ligne dès maintenant

We are pleased to inform you that the Beach will re-open on 6 April (for lunchtimes only) and from 1 May full time.

The beach provides a space for you to relax with your friends and families, and is open to staff, delegates, NGOs, other members of Geneva’s international community and their guests. It includes a restaurant, comfortable sun loungers, paddle boards, pedalos, a children’s paddling pool, games, activities such as yoga classes and the organization of special events.

The 2019 season will see a number of important changes that will be phased in over the start of the season:

  • A pontoon that will allow easier and safer access into the water for swimmers, paddleboarders and others.
  • A new lounge on the roof of the changing rooms with stunning views over the lake.
  • A more vegetarian-friendly menu in the restaurant featuring healthier options and sharing plates, and more choices in between meal times.
  • A new bar close to the changing rooms with expanded opening hours.
  • A wider range of evening events and daytime activities - please send us your ideas as well.

Seasonal subscriptions are now available to buy online at our website: www.unport.org. Subscriptions allow unlimited access to the Beach and restaurant over the season, including use of equipment such as paddleboards and pedalos, without having to pay the CHF 5 entrance fee each time.

If you had a mooring in 2018 and wish to retain it for 2019, kindly purchase your personal subscription and that for your boat no later than 31 May.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Beach in a few weeks. The official opening party will be at the start of May and the date will be communicated shortly.

Our position papers for the upcoming Staff-Management Committee | Documents soumis à la prochaine session du Comité Administration- personnel

As you may know, the Staff-Management Committee, which brings together Administration and staff unions from across the UN system, meets next month in Sarajevo.  

The UNOG Staff Coordinating Council will be participating, following a positive response from the Secretary-General’s representative to the letter staff unions sent him in February. The letter had noted with strong concern that administration had been attempting circumvent SMC in order to pass substantive changes to human resources policy and had asked that this approach be discontinued.

Why the global service delivery model could end up losing money | Pourquoi le Dispositif de prestation de services centralisée

We would like to share with you this article, just published on iSeek, which shows how the UN’s plan to offshore 750 back office jobs to cheaper locations, could end up losing money, as well as lead to a decline in service quality. This finding contradicts the main selling point of the global service delivery model, which is meant to be its financial benefit.

These findings have consequences for Geneva, which is set to lose jobs under the plan. We will be bringing this finding to the attention of Member States, who are currently considering the project.

If you play golf and work in the UN-system or in an international organization, NGO, a diplomatic mission in Geneva, or you are an accredited journalist to the United Nations, welcome to the IGC. 

The International Golf Club organizes about 30 competitions for its members and invited guests throughout the season. The Club plays on golf courses nearby, in France as well as in Switzerland but also in Italy for one or two days.  Partners and dependent children (up to 18 years old or 25 years old for students) may also become active members.

We can apply for your license to the French Golf Federation which manages our Hcps.

What is next in our fight against harassment | Prochaines étapes dans notre lutte contre le harcèlement

Two recent staff surveys have revealed rampant harassment and abuse across the UN system, and highlighted the urgent need for concrete changes in how the UN handles cases of misconduct.

The survey conducted by Deloitte, on behalf of the Secretary-General focused only on sexual harassment. The results, which were widely reported in international media this month, indicate that a third of all staff have experienced sexual harassment in the UN context, and that only a minority of victims choose to take action as a result.

Meanwhile, the survey conducted by the CCISUA staff federation, of which we are a member, covered all forms of harassment, as well as discrimination and abuse of authority. We are pleased to share with you a detailed presentation of this survey’s results, following the initial findings that were announced in December. Your responses, including some 10,000 individual comments from over 6,000 participants, helped establish clear and striking patterns:
