Following our staff townhalls, we are pleased to share with you a letter sent to the President of the General Assembly and chairs of regional groups from the staff unions of the United Nations system. This letter explains why we the staff believe in the importance of robust and constructive staff-management relations and calls on member States to act accordingly in the interest of the Organization.
Key points are that Management misconstrued the General Assembly resolution on staff-management relations and that Management’s proposal to strip staff of their rights would put the Organization in breach of Principle 3 of its own Global Compact. (Interestingly, this same page of the Global Compact website provides a detailed explanation on why the rights that the Secretary-General wants to take away are in fact so important.)
Further actions are planned by all the unions and we will continue to keep you updated on this fast evolving situation.
Finally, we rely on your support. Thank you!
